Are Fameless Shower Doors Safe?

One of the most common questions customers ask us is “are frameless shower doors safe?” and our answer is always yes.  The reason we can rest assured that our customers do not run any risks with the presence of a glass shower door in their bathroom, is because the glasses that we use at Al’s Quality, are tempered.  These shower enclosures, whether they are frameless or not, are made of safety tempered glass for “yours and our” peace of mind.  We want to be sure that our customers feel safe around them, especially when they have kids as one of the most commonly users of these glass enclosures. This is why we have provided you with a video, so you can experience with your very own eyes, how safe and strong these glasses really are.  In the following video we have a 3/8” thick safety tempered glass door, just like the ones we use for our installations, and we will show you how much it takes for one of these glasses to be broken.  The door is first hinged to a wall, simulating a shower wall, and after this step you are shown a different variety of metals and woods that we will use to “attempt” to break this glass before it actually happens.  Obviously these are not things that regularly happen on a household on a day to day basis, people don’t usually grab a hammer to knock on a glass shower door, but we want you to get the idea of how much strength and power you would need to break one of these glasses.   Just think, a 3/8” tempered glass is 10 times stronger than a regular glass, which means that our 3/8” tempered glass is as strong as a regular glass that is 3 ¾” thick! So now can you imagine the force that would need to hit this glass to actually make it crumble to pieces? And that’s our next point.  A safety tempered shower door is so safe, that “if” it’s broken, and that’s a big “if”, it will crumble into tiny little pieces as we showed you in the video.  Why is this safer? Because since it doesn’t crack into big pieces like a regular mirror or glass, you can feel safer that if it breaks, it will just crumble down instead of having huge pieces flying right at you.  We are so secure with the quality of our glasses that in one of our videos, three of our installers decided to stand on a piece of glass, not only one by one, but all of them together to prove to you that you have nothing to worry about.  We want to show you that if we can feel safe, then you can feel safe too.  We had the guys lay a piece of glass flat, using only a chair and the truck rack as holders on each end, so that one at a time they could get on top of it.  We recorded it at different angles, so that you can appreciate that this is true, and that our glasses can support the weight of three grown man without breaking or even cracking.  Why were our installers not afraid? Because we stand 100% behind the quality of our shower doors and we believe in our products. At Al’s Quality, it is our main priority that we provide you with the best in quality and design, so when you are thinking of remodeling your bathroom, or of making home-improvements, we want to be your number 1 choice! We will design with you and guide you through the process, so that at the end of this journey, you won’t only have a beautiful frameless shower door enclosure, but a safe one as well.

We are very proud to offer our customers the best quality in glass enclosures and we look forward to helping you.  For more information go to www.alsquality.com

  3. Theres no reason as to why frameless shower doors wouldn't be safe. They still operate the same exact way and offer more potential safety.

  13. We are planning on getting our shower replaced. We would rather have the walk in shower instead of the tub/shower combo. It is just nicer and I slip on tub surfaces easier. http://www.showerfix.net.au/

  14. I agree, frame less doors aren't any more dangerous than framed doors. We recently replaced our bathroom shower door with a frame less one and it looks so much better than the old one. We are very happy that we replaced it.

  15. I have been looking into getting a new shower door. I have heard about those frame-less shower doors and I really like the idea of it. I didn't know much about so I researched it to learn more to see if this is really what we want to go with. It seems like they are pretty safe which is good news and another reason to get it.

  17. That is good to hear that frame-less shower doors are safe. I didn't know that the glass used in frame-less shower doors was tempered so that it wouldn't break easily. I am going to remodel my bathroom soon and I was thinking of getting a frame-less shower door for my shower. Does anyone know of a place I could go to look at glass shower doors so I can decide what kind of door I want?

  19. I just recently bought a new home, and I've been thinking about getting glass doors for my shower. I really like the way it looks, and I've always preferred a standup shower to a bathtub anyway. I like how you mentioned using tempered glass to ensure that it is safe. Thanks for all of your tips.
